Sheriff’s Department arrests man they say robbed the Circle K in Crystal River, however he denies the charges, says he was somewhere else selling drugs.
On January 3rd a man entered the circle k convenience store at 400 south Suncoast Boulevard in Homosassa. The defendant asked for cigarettes and the clerk placed a pack of cigarettes on the register, the defendant took out a handgun and pointed it at her demanding money from the register. The clerk handed him the cash and then turned around and got a carton of cigarettes and handed it to him.
As she was handing him the cash and cigarettes, a second clerk approached and the defendant turned and pointed the handgun at that clerk. The defendant made statements that his mother had just passed away and needed money for the funeral, as well as, stating words to the effect, that this is what drugs will do to you. The defendant then fled on foot out of the business.
Surveillance video was obtained and still images were published on the Crime stoppers website. Three separate tips were collected, which named the defendant, Mr. Robert Cason, 20, of 3602 W RIVERVIEW LN DUNNELLON as the suspect that had robbed the store.
A photograph pack was prepared and shown to the clerk, ms Kayla Pearce, who was immediately able to identify Cason as the man that had robbed her at gunpoint. She stated that she was one hundred percent positive of the identification.
Information was obtained from one of the Crime stopper tipsters that he was at his girlfriend’s home on Halls River Rd. Deputies made contact at that address and was able to get Cason into custody without incident.
After being transported to the Citrus County Detention facility (ccdf) for booking and processing Cason said that he would speak with deputies about the case. After being read his Miranda rights, Cason said that he had witnesses that could prove he was selling roxy’s to them at the time of the robbery, but he could not name them at this time. He went on to say that he did not do this particular robbery, but that he has done robberies in the past and he thought when he was being arrested it was for a Different robbery in which he robbed someone for pills.
Cason said that he sells pills and that he makes a lot of money and he would not need to rob a convenience store or a business, because he knows they do not have much money and that he would rather rob a drug dealer.
The defendant‘s bond was set at $50,000.00 per the bond schedule.
